GREAT PRIMATE SAFARI UGANDA (11 days)
Day 1 : Arrival - Entebbe -Kampala
You will be received by a tour guide from Trinita Safaris on arrival at the
airport who will then transfer you to Kampala for the over night at
either Serena Kampala Hotel (up market/luxurious accommodation), Hotel
Africana (modorate class accommodation) or Holiday Express hotel or
hotel Ruch (Low budget/basic accommodation).Bed and break fast
Day 2 : Kampala - Kibale Forest
After breakfast, you will depart on a 450km journey
to Kibale Forest National Park arriving in the afternoon. Kibale Forest
is a rainforest, with a rich primates species recorded; the highest in
Uganda and Africa this include Chimpanzees, Grey Cheeked Mangabey, Red
Tailed monkey and Red Colobus. Go for Chimpanzee tracking in the forest
in the afternoon returning in the evening. Seeing the way our
"cousins" feed, climb trees, and respond to humans, caring
for the young ones is an amazing experience.
Dinner and over night at either Ndali lodge, a stunning location
overlooking a dramatic Crater Lake and the fabled "Mountains of
the Moon"/ Mantana Tented Camp (Up maket/luxurious accommodation),
Primate Lodge Kibale (Medium
class accommodation) or Chimps guest house (Low budget/basic
accommodation). Full Board
Day 3 : Kibale Forest
This safari day, is a day of getting to know how
chimps behave by socialising with them. This you will do
with the aid of the habituation team. Spend the whole morning in the
forest returning to the lodge in time for lunch. Later in the evening,
you will have the opportunity of a guided walk through Bigodi Swamp.
Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is managed by the Kibale Association for Rural
and Environmental organisation formed in 1992 with the aim of achieving
social and economic development for local communities. The swamp is a
home to roughly 335 bird species including four (4) species not
recorded anywhere and it's also rich in vegetation, such as wild palms,
polita figs and the dominant papyrus.
Dinner and over night at either Ndali lodge, a stunning location
overlooking a dramatic Crater Lake and the fabled "Mountains of
the Moon"/ Mantana Tented Camp (Upmarket/luxurious accommodation. Primate
Lodge Kibale (Medium class
accommodation) or Chimps guest house (Low budget/basic accommodation). Full

Day 4 : Kibale - Queen Elizabeth National Park
Take breakfast, and head for Queen Elizabeth National
Park having a game drive while entering the park arriving in the
afternoon. Relax around the pool after lunch and later go for an early
evening game drive. You will not wonder why Queen Elizabeth boasts over
having the highest bio diversity ratings than any game park or reserve
in the world, - from the open savannah to rain forest, dense papyrus
swamps and a record ten crater lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward. A
record 95 mammal species that include Lions, Hippos, Buffaloes,
Leopards, Spotted hyena, Elephants and the elusive Giant Forest Hog plus
remarkable 610 bird species that include the Black Chested Eagle, the
Swallow Tailed Bee Eaters, to mention but a few. Ten Primates species
include Chimps, Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Blue, Black Faced Red
Colobus, and Red Tailed monkeys and Olive Baboons. Reptiles are the
amazing huge Rock-Python, Puff adders, Spitting Cobras, Gabon Rippers,
Green Mambas, and Turtles etc. All these are regularly sighted around
the tourist village on the Mweya Peninsula and all this makes a superb
safari territory. Over night at either Mweya Lodge/ Jacana safari Lodge
(Upmarket/luxurious accommodation), King fisher Lodge Kichwamba/Hill
Top Camp (Medium class accommodation) or the Institute of Ecology
Cottages (Low budget/basic accommodation). Full Board
Day 5 : Queen Elizabeth
Go track Chimpanzees in the morning in Kyambura
gorge. Return to the lodge for breakfast. Relax, and thereafter go in
the afternoon for a boat trip along the Kazinga Channel. Hippos huff
and spray mere feet away from the boat, Buffalos linger in the
shallows, a tremendous variety of birds grace the grasses on the
shores. Great white and Pink-backed pelicans, Great and Long-tailed
cormorants, Open-billed stork, African jacana, Malachite and Pied
kingfishers are commonly seen. Night at either Mweya Lodge/ Jacana
safari Lodge (Upmarket/luxurious accommodation), King fisher Lodge
Kichwamba/Hill Top Camp (Medium class accommodation) or the Institute
of Ecology Cottages (Low budget/basic accommodation). Full Board.
Day 6 : Queen Elizabeth - Bwindi Impenetrable National
Park
Take breakfast, then go on a game drive as you leave
Queen Elizabeth for Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Renown for its
mountain gorillas, the montane forest also attracts spectacular birds.
There are 23 of the 24 Albertine Rift endemics including the African
green broadbill, Bar tailed trogon and other beautiful forest species.
You may decide to relax in the afternoon or take a nature walk ( at an
extra cost of $10 per person) which will lead you to the Munyaga
waterfall and a chance to see primates such as the grey cheeked
mangabey, blue monkeys and others species. Spend the night at either
Gorilla forest camp / Mantana tented camp (upmarket/luxurious
accommodation), or Lake Kitandara tented camp/ Buhoma homestead (Medium
class accommodation) or the Community bandas (Low budget/basic
accommodation). Full Board. You will need to have a good night rest to
get ready for the following day's gorilla tracking.
Day 7 : Gorilla Tracking - Bwindi Impenetrable National
Park
On this day, you will wake up very early to get ready
for gorilla tracking. Take your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear
to track the rare mountain gorilla, perhaps one of the most intriguing
wildlife experiences on earth. There are only up to 650 left in the
world! The tracking may take up to 6 hours but its well worth the
effort. There are always park guides with you who interpret the fauna
and flora and the lifestyle of the Gorillas. In the afternoon relax at
the camp or go for a village walk to visit the endangered Batwa people
returning to the camp in the evening. Dinner and over night at either
Gorilla Forest Camp / Mantana Tented Camp (Upmarket/luxurious
accommodation), or Lake Kitandara's Tented Camp/ Buhoma Homestead
(Medium class accommodation) or the Community Bandas (Low budget/basic
accommodation). Full Board
Day 8 : Bwindi - Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, you will leave for Lake Mburo
National Park via Kabale then to Lake Mburo National Park arriving in
the afternoon. You will have lunch and take a rest in the afternoon or
take a boat trip. Lake Mburo is part of the cluster of the five lakes
that are fed by river Rwizi and connected to several seasonal and
permanent swamps. It is a home to big herds of Zebras, Impalas, topi,
Eland and other savannah species. For birders, this is one of the best
place to find the African Fin foot, Papyrus, Bush Shrike, etc. Go for an
evening game drive and over night at Mihingo Lodge (High class/luxurious
accommodation), Mantana Tented Camp (mid-class) or Uganda Wildlife
Authority's Tents (Low budget/basic accommodation). Full Board
Day 9 : Lake Mburo - Kampala - Entebbe
On this day, have breakfast and drive to Kampala.
Stop at the Equator for some pictures while standing at both the
southern and the northern amisphere, you may visit the craft
stalls.continue to Entebbe and stay for over night at either Imperial
Resort Beach Hotel (Upmarket/luxurious accommodation), or Boma Guest
house (Moderate class accommodation) or the Golf View Inn (Low
budget/basic accommodation). Bed and Breakfast.
Day 10 : Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Have breakfast and depart on a boat to Ngamba Island
which is an orphanage for Chimpanzees. You will view the feeding of
these great apes which is done between 11:00 am and 2:30 pm. Get to
know how they become orphanes and why they were brought to Ngamba
Island. Return to Entebbe in the eveinig and stay. at either Imperial
Resort Beach Hotel (Upmarket/luxurious accommodation), or Boma Guest
house (Modorate class accommodation) or the Golf View Inn (Low
budget/basic accommodation). Bed and Breakfast.
Day 11 - Departure.
Please note that gorilla tracking in this itinerary
is dependant on availability of permits/accommodation. We therefore
advise you to book early enough. However, the tracking can also be done
in Rwanda as well if the permit/accommodation is not available at the
time of your booking.
